Allocating more memory to mail services

Allocating more memory to the mail server improves mail server performance (because it takes less time to retrieve large mail messages), but it reduces the amount of memory available to other AppleShare IP servers and programs running on your computer. With more memory allocated, you can increase the allowed number of concurrent connections to the mail server.

To allocate more memory to the mail server:
1 Stop the mail server and quit Mac OS Server Admin.
2 Select the AppleShare IP Mail Server extension (in the Extensions folder inside the System Folder on your computer's startup disk).
3 Open the File menu and choose Get Info, then choose Memory.
4 Enter a larger number in the "Preferred size" box.
